Kirsten Aurbakken

Counseling Intern

My name is Kirsten, and I am a graduate student completing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at West Texas A&M University. I provide individual counseling to children, adolescents, and adults who may feel stuck in painful patterns, overwhelmed by anxiety or depression, disconnected in relationships, or impacted by past trauma. My approach is grounded in compassion, collaboration, and a belief that healing occurs when individuals feel genuinely seen, heard, and supported.

Prior to entering the counseling profession, I spent 16 years in education, including more than a decade teaching high school, as well as experience in elementary and special education settings. Working closely with adolescents, neurodivergent children, and their families has deeply shaped my clinical perspective and strengthened my ability to attune to developmental, relational, and emotional needs across the lifespan.

My clinical work is trauma-informed and integrative. I have completed training in Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) and incorporate its principles into my work with children, families, and adults. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to tailor treatment to each client’s unique goals and experiences.

I understand that beginning therapy can feel vulnerable and uncertain. I strive to create a safe, supportive environment where clients can explore their experiences at their own pace, develop insight, build coping skills, and move toward greater connection and emotional well-being. I would be honored to walk alongside you on your journey toward healing and growth.
